NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne joined Richmond International Raceway on Thursday at a Habitat for Humanity construction site right here in Richmond, Virginia. It was a day full of hammers, saws, unveiling, cornhole, and tons of appreciation.  Just two weeks before he takes to the track Kahne, driver of the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, took on a construction site and a pair of lucky RICHMOND NATION members in cornhole.

He was joined by the future homeowner to install a roof for her shed. No stranger to getting his hands dirty, Kahne has helped on Habitat for Humanity sites in Washington state, Missouri, Charlotte and now Richmond. He lit up when the power tools came out, he was able to cut and nail boards to the shed – even showing the volunteers a trick or two.

“It was neat to be a part of Habitat for Humanity,” said Kahne. “They do an unbelievable job giving people opportunity to own a home and that lasts through generations,”

Kahne then headed trackside to say “Thank You Fans” and spread some excitement around the upcoming Fan Appreciation Weekend on September 9th and 10th. He joined RIR Track President, Dennis Bickmeier and RICHMOND NATION fans to install the new “Fan Appreciation Restart Zone” on the track wall. Fans and Kahne himself put the finishing touches on the decal with their signatures, the first of many expected to leave their mark on Fan Appreciation Weekend.

RICHMOND NATION season ticketholders were invited out for a cookout and corn hole tournament as a part of the event, and the winning duo went head to head with Kahne and Bickmeier in the final round. It was good match up but Kahne and Bickmeier pulled out the win with a score of 21-10.

“The fans of NASCAR are unbelievable and always have been, the energy and the support they bring to the track each week play a big part in what we do,” said Kahne.
