Richmond Raceway will wave the green flag for the start of the 2019 NASCAR season on the Richmond Raceway Road Trip (RR Road Trip) for DAYTONA Speedweeks Presented By AdventHealth in Daytona, Fla. on Feb. 10-17. Richmond will drive an RV and Toyota Tundra, along with the track’s state of the art, in-car driving simulator, to promote the new racing season by visiting short tracks across five states between Richmond, Va. and Daytona, Fla. on Feb. 10-11. The RR Road Trip will also give fans the opportunity to drive the Richmond Raceway Simulator in the Sunoco Injector at Daytona International Speedway prior to race events on Feb. 14-17.
The RR Road Trip will depart America’s Premier Short Track on Sunday, Feb. 10 for a two-day drive to Daytona, Fla. for DAYTONA Speedweeks Presented By AdventHealth. The short track tour will begin with a stop at Racing Virginia’s historic Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway in Langley, Va., which opened for auto racing in 1950. The RR Road Trip will continue with visits to Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, N.C., Myrtle Beach Speedway in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Pooler, Ga., and New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. The RR Road Trip will conclude at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Fla.
“As DAYTONA Speedweeks signals the start of a new NASCAR season, we will launch our season by crossing our historic start/finish line to begin the Richmond Raceway Road Trip to Daytona International Speedway,” said Richmond President Dennis Bickmeier. “We are avid supporters of grassroots racing through Racing Virginia, so we look forward to visiting short tracks across five states and debuting the Richmond Raceway Simulator in the Sunoco Injector to race fans from across the country. It will not be long before NASCAR’s best return to America’s Premier Short Track on April 12-13 for the Toyota Spring Race Weekend.”
The state-of-the-art Richmond Raceway Simulator will be loaded into the Sunoco Injector at Daytona International Speedway for fan activations throughout DAYTONA Speedweeks Presented By AdventHealth. Sunoco, the Official Fuel of NASCAR since 2004, has its injector closest to the Ticket and Tours Building, with a view of Turn 4, at Daytona International Speedway. The Richmond Raceway Simulator will be active for fans to drive from the moment gates open to the waving of the green flag for the 61st Annual DAYTONA 500 and all other Daytona International Speedway events on Feb. 14-17.
“We are excited to have the Richmond Raceway Simulator as part of the Sunoco Injector throughout the week of the DAYTONA 500,” said Fred McConnell, Director of Fuels Marketing at Sunoco. “We are always looking for new and unique ways to engage with NASCAR fans and this state-of-the-art Simulator will be a fantastic addition to the Injector.”
The Richmond Raceway Simulator is an interactive two-seat, in-car driving simulator that allows fans to get behind the wheel to drive Richmond’s famed ¾-mile D-shaped oval and 79 other tracks including some select Racing Virginia tracks. The Richmond Raceway Simulator is powered by iRacing, the world’s premier motorsports racing simulation platform. Richmond-based Sim Seats designed and installed the hardware for the simulator. The Richmond Raceway Simulator is featured at select outbound events throughout the year.
The Richmond RV will be located in the heart of the action in the GEICO Grounds Red Premium RV Camping for DAYTONA Speedweeks Presented By AdventHealth at Daytona International Speedway. Richmond’s Promotional Team will be engaging with fans throughout the week for games and activities for the start of the 2019 NASCAR season.
As part of Richmond’s commitment to promote grassroots racing, the track joined an unprecedented collaboration among Virginia’s motorsports venues to launch RacingVirginia.com. Now it is third year, the Racing Virginia platform shares information from tracks around the Commonwealth to make it easy for fans to plan their weekends with a master schedule of racing events, stay up to date with news, and share ticket information. Exclusive original content is shared weekly with regular columns by Randy Hallman and Justin Kern and the Racing Virginia Podcast hosted by Dave Seay of Virginia Motor Speedway and Vaughan Crittenden of Richmond.
