Virginia Credit Union LIVE!, the only covered amphitheater in the greater Richmond region, will welcome fans back at full capacity for an expanded concert season beginning in July. After not hosting its traditional concert season last year due to the pandemic, Virginia Credit Union LIVE! is back and better than ever with some of the best live music acts performing at the renovated amphitheater with new amenities.
“We welcomed fans back to Richmond Raceway for NASCAR in April, so now we‘re ready to welcome concert goers back to Virginia Credit Union LIVE! beginning in July,” said Richmond President Dennis Bickmeier. “While we were unable to host concerts in 2020 due to the pandemic, we continued to reinvest in the redevelopment of the facility to be ready to welcome fans back. We look forward to fans returning to Virginia Credit Union LIVE! for one of the best concert experiences in the greater Richmond region.”
Richmond Raceway and AEG Presents are in the fifth year of an exclusive 10-year booking agreement for Virginia Credit Union LIVE!, the region‘s premier outdoor venue. In 2017, the successful partnership brought two leaders in entertainment together to bring the best touring artists in the world to the greater Richmond region.

In May 2019, Richmond Raceway unveiled a completed $500,000 amphitheater redevelopment at Virginia Credit Union LIVE!. The capital investment included a reseating of the venue to create flexible seating and additional aisles to offer fans the best views and concert experience. The new removable padded seats in the front half of the venue has provided flexible options for the amphitheater to offer reserved seating, general admission seating or a standing pit area. The expanded pit area has allowed more rock and alternative shows to perform at the venue.
As part of the redevelopment, Richmond partnered with Anheuser-Busch, Bold Rock Cider, Devils Backbone and Brown Distributing for the new Virginia Credit Union LIVE! party deck, the Bud Light Patio. The section is located to the right of the stage with tiered viewing, high top tables and chairs, ADA seating, and private bar. Tickets for the Bud Light Patio will be available for concerts this season.
Additional improvements to Virginia Credit Union LIVE! over the past 18 months include a new stage, speaker system on Commonwealth Mall, new landscaping along the seating entrance, new restroom open on the hill and new backstage fencing. Past improvements include a porta bar on the hill overlooking concerts, public WiFi, updated public restrooms and redeveloped back of house to improve the experience for entertainers with updated star rooms and other new features.
2021 Concert Season
Virginia Credit Union LIVE! continues to bring top musical acts and superior concert experiences to music fans in the greater Richmond region. The venue has hosted top national recording artists such as Aerosmith, Sting, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, Dave Matthews Band, Florida Georgia Line, The Lumineers, and The 1975. This year‘s expanded concert series promises to be one of the best in the venue‘s history.
Whiskey Myers will launch the 2021 concert season at Virginia Credit Union LIVE! with their unique Southern rock/country music on Saturday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Dropkick Murphys and Rancid with The Bronx will rock Virginia Credit Union LIVE! on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m.
Drive-By Truckers with special guest Matthew E. White will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a show on Thursday, Aug. 26 at 8:00 p.m.
Cody Jinks will kick off the fall NASCAR Playoff Weekend with an evening of outlaw country on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
The Avett Brothers, one of the top folk-rock acts in the country, will return to Virginia Credit Union to perform their iconic sound once again on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Brett Young with Filmore, Maddi & Tae will play their original country pop sound on Friday, Sept. 24 at 8:00 p.m.
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit will bring his uniquely original sound to Virginia Credit Union LIVE! on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
Glass Animals, a British alternative/indie band, will share a performance on Monday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats will perform their unique folk, Americana and vintage rhythm and blues music on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 8:00 p.m.
PRIMUS will bring their original funk metal sound to Virginia Credit Union LIVE! as part of A Tribute To Kings Tour on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. A Tribute To Kings tour will showcase PRIMUS performing Rush‘s entire classic album, A Farewell To Kings, in addition to their own music.
Porter Robinson will bring his Nurture Live North American Tour to Virginia Credit Union LIVE! on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Machine Gun Kelly, with special guests jxdn and KennyHoopla, will perform his My Downfall Tour at Virginia Credit Union LIVE! on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m. This concert is sold out.

Richmond Raceway will continue the 75th anniversary celebration over the fall NASCAR Playoff Weekend with three races over two days on Sept. 10-11. The Virginia is for Racing Lovers 150 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race will kick off the weekend on Friday, Sept. 10. America‘s Premier Short Track will host a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 11 with the Go Bowling 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at 2:30 p.m. and the Federated Auto Parts 400 Cup Series Playoff race at 7:30 p.m. This will be the 30th anniversary of the fall Cup race being held under the lights at Richmond.
