Thrilling NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Series race sets stage for incredible weekend of racing at Richmond Raceway
RICHMOND, Va. (March 29, 2024) — The epic NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour rivalry between Justin Bonsignore and Ron Silk produced a thrilling new chapter Friday night at Richmond Raceway. Bonsignore held off Silk by a scant 81-thousandths of a second to win the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 150.
“That was a wild finish there,” said Bonsignore, a three-time series champion who collected his 41st career win. “I didn‘t want Ron to cross me over (on the final lap). I was just trying to hold him out there and drag race him back to the line. The rivalry we have is unreal. For 150 laps tonight, we just battled our guts out.”
Bonsignore led a race-high 79 laps and Silk led 61 in a race that featured all the thrills, chills and spills one expects at Richmond Raceway. Trevor Catalano, Bobby Santos III and Jake Johnson rounded out the top five.
Now all eyes turn to an action-packed Saturday at Richmond Raceway that includes NASCAR Cup Series practice and qualifying and the NASCAR Xfinity Series‘ ToyotaCare 250. NASCAR Cup Series practice begins at 10:35 a.m., immediately followed by Busch Light Pole Award qualifying for Sunday‘s Toyota Owners 400. The green flag for the ToyotaCare 250 will fly shortly after 1:30 p.m.
