Thrilling NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race jumpstarts exciting race weekend
RICHMOND, Va. (Aug. 14, 2025) – Craig Lutz methodically reeled in race leader Austin Beers like a veteran in the closing laps of Thursday night’s Virginia Is For Racing Lovers 150 at Richmond Raceway. That patience and speed paid off as he passed Beers late and pulled away to capture his second NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win of the 2025 campaign.
“I was reeling him in and I saw Austin’s car struggling off of Turn 4, so I knew I had a chance,” said Lutz, who won for the sixth time in his NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Career. “Austin did a great job, fun racing those guys, but it was fun to race that way. We just won at Richmond!”
Patrick Emerling, Trevor Catalano and Corey LaJoie rounded out the top five.
The NASCAR Weekend at Richmond Raceway presented by Who’s Your Driver continues Friday with the epic finale to the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series regular season, the eero 250. Action begins at 7:30 p.m. ET. And then on Saturday, the action concludes with the long-awaited return of Saturday night racing in Richmond as the stars of the NASCAR Cup Series look to secure a playoff berth in the Cook Out 400 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
